Maymont

MaymontMaymont was an extraordinary gift, given to the community by Major James Henry and Sallie May Dooley. Today, this Richmond treasure has something for everyone. The Maymont Mansion, the Dooley’s opulent Victorian-era home, includes original furnishings and a belowstairs exhibition. The Italian and Japanese gardens offer breathtaking beauty, and the arboretum boasts more than 200 species of trees and shrubs. The Robins Nature and Visitor Center features interactive exhibits and 13 giant aquariums with otters, turtles and fish as well as the Maymont Café. Wildlife exhibits house a number of species native to Virginia, including bison, bears and bald eagles, and at the Children’s Farm, visitors can interact with goats and other farm animals.

The property was bequeathed to the city of Richmond in 1925 as a park and museum. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation.

Maymont offers a variety of group tour options including Mansion tours, garden tours, animal tours, tram rides, special packages, accommodations for lunch and more! Maymont’s Visitor Center entrance is located at 2201 Shields Lake Drive.
