Patrick Henry’s famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech occurred on 23 March 1775 inside the church. His oration sparked the fire of revolution in the colony. Henry’s impassioned plea has endured as the most famous cry for freedom in the world.

Hours of Operation

Tours are conducted Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday hours are 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The last tour of the day begins at 3:30 p.m.

The summer season of public reenactments begins Memorial Day weekend and runs through Labor Day weekend. We also produce an Anniversary Reenactment, held on the Sunday in March closest to 23 March, the actual date of Henry’s speech and a Veterans Day Reenactment, held on the Sunday in November prior to the federal holiday.

Our signature exhibit, In the Cause of Liberty, explores the war’s causes, course, and legacies through the essential perspectives of the war’s main participant groups. Artifact displays change regularly so there is always something new to see!

The 8.3-acre National Historic Landmark site offers the perfect backdrop and riverfront view for any number of events!
